Applicant and Admitted Students Questions

You have explored our website and/or gone through the application process, but still have some questions that have gone unanswered. We attempt to answer a few here:

I have taken both the "old" and the "redesigned" SAT, which scores should I send and how will they be evaluated?

We recommend students send in whichever scores they feel best represent their abilities. Students are welcome to submit multiple scores from multiple test dates. In the evaluation process, the highest score in each category for the SAT and/or ACT will be used regardless of the test date. In cases where students have taken both the "old" and the "redesigned" SAT, tests will be super-scored within the respective exams but not across them, i.e. "old" with "old" and "redesigned" with "redesigned" but not "old" with "redesigned."

On the class profile, are the SAT ranges from the "old" SAT or the "redesigned" SAT?

Lehigh's class profile lists SAT ranges from the "old" SAT scale. Students are welcome to utilize the CollegeBoard's Score Converter to help provide context for the ranges listed. Please remember that Lehigh practices holistic admissions and standardized testing is just one component of our much larger review process.

I’m considering applying to Lehigh, what are the minimum course requirements?

The course work or units required for admission represent the equivalent of the usual four-year college preparatory curriculum. Minimum course work requirements can be misleading since most students who gain admission to Lehigh University exceed the minimum course work.

MINIMUM SUBJECT MATTER REQUIREMENTS

English: 4
Foreign Languages1: 2
Social Science: 2
Laboratory Science: 2
College Preparatory Mathematics: 3
Elective Subjects: 3
Total Credits: 16

1  Only in exceptional cases, and for otherwise well-qualified candidates, will the Committee on Admissions waive the Foreign Language requirement for admission to any one of the three undergraduate colleges.

As a potential applicant, what other factors, besides standardized testing and GPA, will be considered in my application review?

While there are many elements that go into Lehigh’s holistic application review, the Committee on Admissions will be aware of things such as (in no particular order):

  • Rank or relative rank in class
  • The student’s grades within the context of the school environment
  • Evidence of improvement or deterioration in grades during the secondary school career with particular attention paid to performance in senior year courses
  • The quality of performance in courses that relate to the student’s anticipated area of study
  • The difficulty of courses taken with special attention given to courses recognized as accelerated by national academic organizations
  • Comments and recommendations from the principal, headmaster, guidance counselor, teachers, or other professional educators within the school system
  • Extra-curricular/work experience with particular emphasis placed on demonstrated leadership
  • Demonstrated interest in Lehigh University

I'm a new applicant. It has been a month and I haven't received my acknowledgment email. What should I do?

First, check your spam folder for this email. If you still do not have this acknowledgment email and you applied after August 15, please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@lehigh.edu or (610) 758-3100; if you applied prior to August 15, you should receive an email by the beginning of September.

I’m having an issue submitting additional materials through LU FileSender.  What are the possible causes?

Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer are the preferred browsers to use when uploading to LU FileSender.

In some cases if you are using Google Chrome or Apple Safari you will have an error message appear once you select "Drop off Files." In these browsers, after you select "Drop off Files" a pop-up screen appears asking if you want to leave the page and warning that the drop-off will be abandoned if you leave the page. You should select the “Leave the Page” option. The browser is trying to take you to the confirmation page because your upload was successful. If you select “Stay on the Page,” your upload will not actually complete. If you have already clicked through this pop-up and are currently looking at the loading status bar, simply refresh the page, upload the file again, and click "Leave this Page" when the pop-up appears.

If the issue persists please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@lehigh.edu or 610-758-3100.

I do not remember my user ID and password. How can I log into the applicant portal?

Your user ID is the email address you provided on your Common Application. If you cannot remember your password, your account must be reset. Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@lehigh.edu with this request; while a new invitation code will be emailed, it takes 24 hours for the change to take effect.

I'm having technical trouble accessing the portal.

We recommend that you use either Microsoft Explorer version 6.0 or higher or Netscape Navigator version 7.1 or above. If that doesn't work, contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@lehigh.edu or (610) 758-3100.
