Financial Aid for Graduate Students

Welcome from the Director

When it comes to financial aid, we understand that the aid application process can be challenging—whether you have or haven’t experienced it before. The Office of Financial is here to help you navigate every step of the way of your graduate student aid experience.

Here are a few tips to help you navigate your graduate student aid experience:

  • Review our tuition and costs below. Remember that you won’t know what Lehigh will cost for you until you apply for financial aid and receive your decision.
  • Learn about the three main types of aid. It’s important to explore all of your options as many students find a combination of these types of aid works best.
    • Financial aid in the form of Teaching assistantships (TAs), research assistantships (RAs), graduate assistantships (GAs), fellowships and scholarships are administered by the respective academic departments and can be obtained by contacting the appropriate department offices.
    • The financial aid office processes loans for Lehigh University’s graduate programs. Applicants must be registered at least half-time (6 credits each semester during the academic year, or 3 credits for each summer session) to be eligible for federal loans. Enrollment in a degree program is also required.
  • When it’s time to apply for aid, carefully review the requirements to ensure you complete all necessary forms. Graduate students must apply for and accept loans prior to the last day of classes; although we strongly recommend securing this financing well before this time.
    • It’s important to remember that you must reapply for financial aid each year if you are requesting assistance with your college expenses.
  • Carefully read all correspondence from the Office of Financial Aid. Most of the communications you receive from our office requests or explains information directly related to your eligibility for financial aid.
    • Please note that these communications are sent to your Lehigh University assigned email address.

The Office of Financial Aid sincerely wants to help you achieve your educational goals, and we realize that financing your education is a significant factor in this process. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office for assistance.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Mertz
Assistant Vice Provost of Financial Services and Director of Financial Aid

Graduate Tuition & Costs

Tuition and fees for Lehigh University graduate programs vary by college. For more information about specific graduate programs, please visit the Office of the Bursar's website or contact the graduate admissions office for the college from which you are seeking a degree.

For the purpose of determining financial aid eligibility, Lehigh uses a standard room and board allowance of $9,020 for each Fall and Spring semester and $3,150 for each Summer and Winter term that the student is enrolled. Off campus students will not receive a bill from the University for housing but can expect to incur housing and meal costs that are similar to this allowance. If a Graduate student chooses to live on campus, their room charges will be applied to their Bursar account.

Billing Information

Tuition bills are emailed each semester and are administered by the Bursar’s office. For more information and to confirm the deadlines for payment, please visit the Office of the Bursar's website.

Graduate Payment Plan

Lehigh offers a payment plan that enables you to spread each semester’s educational expenses over three installments. The fee to participate ranges from $25 to $50 depending on when you apply. This optional plan is extremely popular with our students. For more information about this program, please visit the Office of the Bursar's website.
