In Memoriam: Dorothy Louise Stabler

Dorothy Stabler and her husband, Donald

Dorothy and her late husband Donald B. Stabler ’30 were dedicated and generous benefactors of Lehigh University. Together they provided for the Stabler Athletic and Convocation Center, the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Scholarship Fund, the Stabler Teaching Award, and the Dorothy L. Stabler Tower on Lehigh’s Mountaintop Campus.
The Stablers believed education is a key to both your future and that of the generations to follow. The complexities that face us today, tomorrow, and henceforth require solutions that can only be solved from a foundation of knowledge.
Born on Dec. 9, 1914, in Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy was the daughter of Ralph and Grace Witwer. She married Donald B. Stabler in 1952 and upon his death in 1997, accepted the position of Vice President and Director of Stabler Companies Inc. and its subsidiaries. She was also a trustee of the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation and served on the board of trustees of Messiah College, Harrisburg Area Community College Foundation, and Woods Services in Langhorne, Pa.
Donald Stabler ’30 passed away in 1997. He was former president of the Lehigh Alumni Association and served as a corporate member on the university's Board of Trustees and was past chairman of the Development Committee.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beverly Anne Stabler of Rockwood, TN; two sisters, Virginia Laing of Glendale, CA, and Marguerite Bowers of Dayton, OH; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
