The first phase of this new residential facility, the "New Residential Houses" or "NRH," is a suite style residence hall that will include flexible public spaces to support student gatherings and activities and enhance community life. NRH is a three building residence hall complex for second year and upper class students. Maida House is named after Sharon and James Maida ’85 ’17P ’19P. Hitch House is named after Julie ’20P ’21P and Jordan Hitch ’88 ’20P ’21P. The third building in this complex will be named shortly.
This residence hall complex is all gendered and houses 405 students in air-conditioned suites. Each suite features a combination of single and double bedrooms (majority are double bedrooms), as well as a private bathroom. The movable bedroom furniture includes a bed, desk, desk chair chest of drawers and closet space.
The neighborhood design boosts community space activated by the programs it will support. The spine of the housing neighborhood creates a common circulation route open to the entire campus and provides access to key program spaces. Phase I will include a fitness center, a dance studio, a coffee house, and multiple meeting/study/TV lounge spaces including a large meeting space in Building C.
