The mechanical engineering and mechanics program presents an address by Dr. Alfonso Ortega, professor of mechanical engineering at Villanova University.

The event begins at 3:45 p.m. in Room 466 of Packard Laboratory.

Tuesday, Dec. 7: “The Role of Embedded Optimization in Smart Systems and Products”

The Spencer C. Schantz Distinguished Lecture Series of the department of industrial and systems engineering presents an address by Dr. Stephen Boyd, professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University.

The event begins at 3:30 p.m. in Perella Auditorium of Rauch Business Center. Dr. Boyd will also give a technical talk on “Real-time Embedded Convex Optimization” at 2:30 p.m. in Room 453 of Mohler Laboratory on Monday, Dec. 6.

Tuesday, Dec. 7: “First and Second Universalities in Ionic Materials with Disordered Structures”

The manufacturing systems engineering program presents an address by Dr. Klaus Funke, professor in the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the University of Munster, Germany.

The event begins at 3:45 p.m. in Room 203 of Whitaker Laboratory. Refreshments will be served at 3:45 p.m. in Student Lounge Whitaker 349.

Thursday, Dec. 9: “Causes, Categories, and Clinicians: Using Cognitive Science to Explore Mental Health Reasoning”

The department of psychology presents an address by Dr. Jessecae Marsh, assistant professor of psychology at Texas Tech University. Dr. Marsh is a candidate for the psychology department position in Reasoning and Decision-making in Health and Illness.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Room 230 of Chandler-Ullmann Hall.

Thursday, Dec. 9: “Sites of Androgen Action in the Nervous System”

The department of biological sciences presents an address by Dr. Marc Breedlove, professor at Michigan State University.
