Celebrated poet Billy Collins to read at Zoellner

Billy Collins is a true rarity in the world of modern poetry: he is a writer who is equally popular among everyday readers as he is among literary critics.

His last three collections, including 2013’s Aimless Love, have broken sales records for poetry, and his readings consistently draw large crowds. The New York Times has called him, quite simply, “the most popular poet in America.”

Collins will bring his powerful, approachable and profound poetry to Lehigh on Tuesday, April 14, with a reading scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Baker Hall in the Zoellner Arts Center. Tickets are $10, or free with a Lehigh ID.

The event is part of the Notations Series, which is sponsored by the Lehigh University Creative Writing Center in collaboration with the Visiting Lecturers Committee. Collins’ appearance is supported by the Ann Neitzel Endowment Fund for Poetry and Creative Writing, with additional support from the Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries.

Those who attend will see a poet at the height of his craft.

Collins served two terms as the U.S. Poet Laureate and one term in the poet laureate of New York State, has published 10 poetry collections, and has had his work published in The New York Times, the New Yorker, The Atlantic, The American Scholar and the Paris Review, among other publications. He currently serves as Distinguished Professor of English at the City University of New York and as Senior Distinguished Fellow of the Winter Park Institute at Rollins College.
