As universities, our mission is clear: We are in the business of changing lives for the better.
We do this through our teaching and our efforts to mold the leaders of tomorrow. We do this through our engagement in our communities, leveraging our intellectual and human capital to bring about positive societal change. We do this through our partnerships in industry, working alongside forward-thinking business leaders to foster innovation around the globe.
And we do this through our research—the work our faculty do every single day to create new knowledge and, by extension, make the world a better place.
Research—the never-ending search for the next great discovery—stands at the very core of what we do.
At Lehigh, we are proud of our legacy of success as a leading research institution, and we are proud, too, of the efforts we have undertaken in recent years to expand our research infrastructure, our capacity for discovery, and our impact on and around the world.
Our newly formed Interdisciplinary Research Institutes (IRIs) will help advance the University’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration by creating communities of scholars and catalyzing critical research in areas in which Lehigh can make lasting societal contributions. Our multidisciplinary Nano/Human Interface Presidential Engineering Research Initiative proposes to develop a human-machine interface that will enhance the ability of scientists to visualize and interpret the vast amounts of data generated by scientific research, and we continue our support for longstanding interdisciplinary excellence as exemplified by the ATLSS Engineering Research Center and other research centers. In fall of 2020, we will open a new, truly unique College of Health, where our faculty will focus their work on critically important spaces in the fast-expanding health sector, and these efforts will create new opportunities across our entire research enterprise.
These important initiatives are only a few of the many we are pursuing here at Lehigh, and the Lehigh Research Review provides just a snapshot of the incredible research our faculty produce.
We are consistently impressed with and often amazed by the work Lehigh faculty deliver in and across multiple disciplines, and the creative and thoughtful ways in which they seek to address and solve the most pressing challenges of our time. We hope you enjoy reading their stories as much as we have.
