Honoring Asa’s 200th birthday

Students from the Graphic Design III course taught by Thom Lepley, professor of practice in the design arts program, have spent the semester writing, designing, and hand-binding books to commemorate Lehigh founder Asa Packer’s 200th birthday.
At 4 p.m. Thursday, the students will present their books to Lehigh’s Special Collections during a ceremony in the Rathbone Room (302) at the University Center. Light refreshments will be served.
Through the Asa Packer Book Project, students were to tell a unique story in a hand-bound artist book that would define Asa Packer and his legacy. The project commemorates Packer’s 200th birthday in December. Six books created by Lepley’s students last year have been on display in the Fairchild-Martindale Library’s Special Collections (third floor, room 625) throughout the fall.
