Incoming freshman drafted by Montreal Expos

Incoming freshman Jack Lyons has been drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 34th round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. Despite being chosen by the Montreal franchise, Lyons will attend Lehigh this fall.
Lyons brings some impressive numbers to Bethlehem. While a senior at Maret High School in Washington, D.C., Lyons posted an 8-1 record with a miniscule 1.62 earned run average. He struck out 102 batters in just over 62 innings of work. Overall, the left-hander was 23-4 with a 1.29 ERA during his high school career.
Any time you have one of your guys drafted, it’s exciting, said Lehigh head coach Sean Leary, set to enter his eighth season as the Mountain Hawks’ head coach. Jack is just one of a number of strong guys coming in this year, and we look forward to another successful season.
Lehigh just completed one of the best seasons in school history. The 2002 Mountain Hawks won a school record 29 games and reached the Patriot League’s championship series for the first time. Last year’s squad featured five All-League selections and both the Pitcher and Rookie of the Year.
