LUAA honors recipients with awards

Lehigh University’s Alumni Association presented three awards at the class dinners held during Reunion Weekend, June 8, 2002.
This year’s recipients of the Alumni Award, the highest honor conferred by the Alumni Association to individuals who have continually supported Lehigh, are Casper M. Camarda ’52 of Bethlehem, Pa.; C. Courtney Seabrook ’32 of Woodstown, N.J.; Frank F. Roberts ’43 of Chatham, N.J.; Charles B. Tillson Jr. ’37 of Cape Coral, Fla.; K. Ted Franck ’47 of Hawthorne, N.J.; Daniel G. Lindner ’77 of Clifton, Va.; S. Clarke Woodruff ’72 of Fort Washington, Pa.; James G. Morgan Jr. ’62 of Lemoyne, Pa.; Sidney J. Silver ’57, M.B.A ‘59 of Bethesda, Md. and; Robin Wilde Lauchnor 82’, M.Ed. ‘87 of Madison, N.J.; Stuart Seltzer ’87 of Mamaroneck, N.Y. and Douglas C. Lane ’67 of Cedar Grove, N.J.
Other awards presented at the June 8 dinner were the Young Alumni Award, and the George F. A. Stutz ’22 Reunion Award.
The Young Alumni Award, which is given to members of the five- and 10-year class who show potential in their profession or chosen field and have rendered valuable service to Lehigh University, was shared by Jeffrey A. Goldberg ’92 of Arlington, Virginia and Lopa N. Patel ’97 of Boston, Mass.
The George F. A. Stutz ’22 Reunion Award, given to an alumnus whose service and character best personifies the spirit of the late George Stutz ’22 and who exhibits leadership in diverse volunteer roles and longtime commitment and loyalty to the Lehigh community, was presented to Robert B. Evans ’39 of Glen Rock, N.J.
At a ceremony held during the Lehigh University Staff dinner on May 9, 2002, the Paul J. Franz Award was given to Bethlehem resident Roseann Corsi in recognition of her years of dedication to Lehigh. The Alumni Association described Corsi as “a special friend to many who enjoys the respect of every ‘kid’ from 9 to 90, as she assists Lehigh student-athletes in the successful community outreach program, C.O.A.C.H., advises the Theta Xi fraternity, manages the volunteers in the gym, and attends numerous athletic events.”
At the Faculty Dinner held on May 7, 2002, the Class of ‘92 presented the Deming Lewis Faculty Award to Bethlehem resident Harvey G. Stenger, a professor of chemical engineering at Lehigh University. This award is given to the faculty member who is judged by the 10-year reunion class to have most significantly influenced its educational experience. Stenger, the youngest professor to serve as dean of engineering, has been recognized for his efforts in encouraging engineering professors to aid in the admissions process.
Also presented this year, at the May 2 reception, was the Undergraduate Merit Award. This award, which is given to seniors who, through exemplary character, personality, scholarship and participation in extracurricular activities, represent the highest traditions of Lehigh University, was given to Robert E. Rohn ’02 of Nazareth; James S. Cybulski ’02 of Mountaintop, Pa.; Michael Rabinovitz ’02 of Sykesville, Md. and Barrett E. Frankel ’02 of Aurora, Ohio.
At a ceremony to be held on Volunteer Day, October 5, 2002, the Alumni Association will present the Friend of Lehigh Award to Ardath H. Rodale of Emmaus, Pa. This award is given to a non-alumnus/a who has displayed a significant and helpful interest in Lehigh University. Rodale, chairman of the board of Rodale Inc. and chairman emeritus on the board of directors of Rodale Institute, is a global leader in agriculture, nutrition, and health.
The Good Neighbor Award, which recognizes a non-alumnus/a and a resident of the local community who has shown a consistent and friendly interest in Lehigh affairs and is well remembered and warmly regarded by a substantial segment of the alumni body, will also be presented during the October 5 ceremony. Louis and Richard Cantelmi, owners of Cantelmi’s Hardware Store on East Fourth Street, will be the recipients. The duo has been described as a “hardworking father-and-son team who greet their clientele by name.”
