Seeking Your Input

Just over five years ago, I arrived here at Lehigh as the new editor of the Lehigh Bulletin.

It was an exciting time, both professionally and personally, but my excitement was tempered, at least somewhat, by my realization that I would face a fairly daunting challenge in my new role: I was taking over an alumni magazine for a university with which I had only just become acquainted.

In other words, I knew that there was a lot that I did not know.

I had yet to experience a Founder’s Day or a Commencement Day. I had never seen a Lehigh-Lafayette game. I had yet to set foot in Linderman Library, get a sandwich at the Goose or take in the spectacle that is the Bed Races. I had yet to realize just how many stairs I would have to take just to get from one part of campus to another.

But I can honestly say that, as much as I didn’t know, one thing was clear from the very start: I could see, from the moment I first set foot on campus, just how much Lehigh people loved their university. I had worked at other universities before my arrival here, and they were very fine institutions, but Lehigh, I understood very quickly, was different. Among students, among staff, among faculty and of course among alumni, there was a sense of loyalty and pride that was simply unmistakable. I found it to be both striking and motivating.

Yes, Lehigh people care about Lehigh. They care very deeply. And as editor of this magazine, I have tried over the past five years to provide you, our readers, with a magazine that is both informational and insightful. We strive to entertain and educate, to tell great Lehigh stories, and to strengthen the connections between friends and alumni of this great university.

We like to think that, most of the time, we accomplish those goals. But we also know we can always do better. In our constant efforts to do so, we are now asking for your help.

At this link, you can access a reader survey that we have created to further our constant efforts to deliver to you a magazine that is worthy of the Lehigh name. In it, we seek your input on basically every aspect of the Bulletin—from story selection to design and so much more. We are sincerely interested in learning what you like and don’t like about the Bulletin, and we hope you will take just a few minutes to give us the feedback we need to make this magazine better.

Of course, we also hope you will enjoy this latest edition of your alumni magazine, and welcome you, as always, to share your Letters to the Editor by emailing us at tih313@lehigh.edu, or by sending via snail mail to me at 301 Broadway, 4th Floor, Suite 400, Bethlehem, Pa. 18015.

Thank you again for reading the Bulletin. And thank you in advance for your feedback.

Sincerely,
Tim Hyland, Editor
