Lehigh community “Moves-Out”

Lehigh University’s “Move-Out” program, currently viewed as a model program by other schools and universities, will run from May 5 through May 11 and on May 22 (Commencement Day) and accept donations of reusable goods such as household items; clothing; small appliances (incl. microwaves, dorm fridges, etc.); furniture (no sofas or upholstered armchairs); non-perishable food; office supplies; cleansers; detergent, etc.
On-campus residents may drop off their donations at the following locations:
• All Residence Halls 24 hours a day from May 5–May 11
• Trembley Parking Lot (near dumpsters) from noon–5 p.m. daily on May 8–May 11
• Kenner Theater in the Ulrich Student Center from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. from May 8–May 11
Neighborhood pickups will go door-to-door off campus from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 9-May 11 and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 22, Commencement Day.
Items collected will be cleaned and sold at the Great Southside Sale, which benefits the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center Youth Programs. Last year’s program raised $6,000 and helped the community and the environment. Food and cleaning supplies replenish the South Side Food Bank at SBNC. This year’s sale will be held on June 3 in the Northampton Community College parking lot on Third Street.
“This project is an important Lehigh event that builds real bridges between Lehigh and its Southside Bethlehem neighbors,” says Carolina Hernandez, community services coordinator. “Move-Out gives back to the Southside by supporting the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center with much needed dollars, and it provides huge donations of food for the Southside food pantry and office supplies for Southside homework clubs.”
