Information for Family & Friends

The 153rd Spring Commencement Weekend
Friday, May 21 to Monday, May 24, 2021

General Information

The Commencement ceremonies will be held outdoors rain or shine in Goodman Stadium on Lehigh’s Goodman Campus. Each ceremony is limited to 4 guests per graduate; tickets are required for guests. Please be sure to review Lehigh’s Severe Weather Plan to plan accordingly.

All graduates and guests must adhere to all Lehigh University COVID-19 Guidelines, which include wearing a cloth face covering (covering mouth and nose) at all times, maintaining 6-foot social distancing (exception to guests in the same party), washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and practicing other good health behaviors such as avoiding touching your face and covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Anyone failing to comply will not be permitted access to the ceremony and will be required to leave. This is for the safety of all of our University community members, and no exceptions will be made. Please plan accordingly. Each ceremony will be streamed live and anyone who cannot (or will not) comply with the COVID-19 Guidelines are welcome to attend Commencement remotely. For more information on Lehigh’s guidelines, please visit Help Stop the Spread.

All graduates and guests are required to complete a COVID-19 Self-Assessment the day of their assigned ceremony and prior to arriving on Lehigh campus. For more information on how to complete your Self-Assessment, please visit the COVID-19 Self-Assessment. You must show proof of your completed Self-Assessment (on your phone or print out) with green QR code to gain access into Goodman stadium. If you receive an orange QR code, your temperature will be checked on site and must be below 100 degrees Fahrenheit prior to being admitted to the ceremony. Please do not attempt to attend Commencement if you receive a red QR code, your temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or you do not show proof of completion. You will be denied access to campus and required to leave. This is for the safety of all of our University community members, and no exceptions will be made. Please plan accordingly.

All graduates are required to RSVP by April 26 to participate in the in-person ceremony. If they do not plan to participate, we encourage them to RSVP as the online system offers another opportunity to recognize their accomplishments. Only graduates who completed their graduation application by April 23 (or last year for the Class of 2020) will have access to login to the RSVP system. Your graduate will receive an email to create an account and access the Online System. Please note: If your graduate did not receive an email to set-up their account, please contact us at inuday@lehigh.edu so we can update their email address and resend the email.

The ticket reservation system for Goodman Stadium will go live the week of May 3rd. Based on the RSVPs received by the April 26 deadline, we will inform graduates the week of May 3rd if an additional undergraduate ceremony is required at 2pm. A personalized promo code will be sent to graduates who confirmed their participation for the in-person ceremony. Enter this code in the box on the top right of the Lehigh tickets website and click “Go.” You will see your assigned ceremony time slot and date. Click “Find Tickets” where you will see Goodman Stadium displayed on your screen. (You will be required to pick 4 seats to ensure seats stay within the same party.) Once the online ticket form has been completed, the person who reserved the seats will receive an email with the tickets. Guests must have their tickets onsite (by phone or print out) as they will be scanned at the stadium gates to confirm access into their assigned ceremony. If your guests change after submitting the ticket form, please contact inuday@lehigh.edu to provide the name(s) of the new guest(s) and who they will be replacing.

All seat reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. The majority of the seats are bleacher seats with a limited number of chairback seats. The type of seat will be described when hovering over a seat on the diagram.

General parking is available on Goodman Campus in the lots adjacent to Stabler Arena. Parking attendants will direct cars to parking areas that are located approximately 600 yards from the stadium. Click here for information on accessible parking >

Graduates must arrive to Goodman Campus 1 hour prior to their assigned ceremony time in appropriate academic regalia wearing a mask along with their Grad Pass and completed COVID-19 Self-Assessment. They must report to the Student Check-In tents located on the east side of Goodman Stadium. To check-in, they must show their Grad Pass and their completed and approved COVID-19 Self-Assessment. When both items are confirmed, the staff member will hand them a wristband that is specific to their ceremony.

Once checked in, they will be directed to enter the stadium through the north entrance gates where they must show their wristband to staff before entering the stadium. There will not be a formal procession for graduates.

No walk-ins will be permitted.

Inside the stadium, graduates will be seated on the field by college, not in alphabetical order. Bottled water will be on the field for graduates and chairs will be set 6 feet apart.

All guests will be required to go through two check-in lines:

Check-In #1 - Confirmation of an approved COVID-19 Self-Assessment (on your phone or print out). You must show proof of your completed COVID-19 Self-Assessment with green QR code to gain access into Goodman stadium. If you receive an orange QR code, your temperature will be checked on site prior to being admitted to the ceremony. Please do not attempt to attend Commencement if you receive a red QR code, your temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or you have not completed your COVID-19 Self-Assessment. You will be denied access to campus and required to leave. This is for the safety of all of our University community members, and no exceptions will be made. Please plan accordingly. If you provide a COVID-19 Self-Assessment with a green QR code or orange QR code and your temperature is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you will receive a wristband that is specific to your ceremony. This wristband must be displayed to the ticket staff prior to scanning your ticket.

Check-In #2 - Tickets Scanned. You must display your wristband to the ticket staff. Once confirmed, a staff member will scan your ticket (on your phone or print out) to confirm access into the stadium. Please note: The stadium gates will open 1 hour prior to the start of your assigned ceremony time. We encourage guests to arrive early enough to find time to park, walk or take a shuttle bus, and complete these two check-in lines.

Please keep in mind that the commencement ceremonies will be held outdoors in a football stadium. Bring your creature comforts. Hats to shield your head from the sun, sunglasses, sunscreen, and stadium cushions are recommended. In the event of rain, bring your umbrella and rain gear. High heels are not recommended for guests and graduates.

Only service dogs are allowed to accompany their owner to Commencement; no house pets.

Two concession stands inside the stadium will be open with a limited menu of snacks and beverages for purchase. Lines will be marked on the pavement in front of the concessions to remind everyone to abide by 6-foot social distancing.

GradImages is the official photographer for Lehigh University’s Commencement Ceremonies. GradImages photographers will take pictures of each graduate prior to walking onto the stage and one on the stage. Graduates may remove their masks for these two photographs, but they must be put back on immediately after each photo. Proofs and orders forms will be emailed to each graduate within 7 days of the ceremony. If they have not received their photos or you have questions regarding their photos, please contact GradImages at www.gradimages.com or (800) 261-2576.

The Bookstore will be setting up a mobile store on Goodman Campus for the in-person ceremonies, located at the Rust Pavilion. They will be selling all of their graduate and family favorite merchandise so you can get any Lehigh gear before heading on the road for your post-graduation celebration.

Check out the University's Local Activities & Resources for a complete listing of accommodations and regional information. Please note: Lehigh University will make every effort to celebrate this important milestone in-person for the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 in a safe and responsible manner; however, due to uncertainties related to COVID-19, there is no guarantee that Commencement will occur on the currently scheduled dates.

Guests are encouraged to make refundable travel arrangements whenever possible and consider purchasing travel insurance. The University is not responsible for any costs incurred due to postponement or cancellation of Commencement.

They are available by the dozen, arranged in a bouquet tied with ribbons representing school colors and a gift card with your personal message. All proceeds benefit the Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley, a non-profit United Way agency. For your convenience, the roses will be available for pickup in the one hour prior to your assigned ceremony time outside of Goodman Stadium. Order roses here >.

All in-person commencement ceremonies will be live streamed on the Lehigh Commencement homepage. Especially with the capacity restrictions, we encourage you to share this information with your family and friends who are not able to celebrate with you in-person.

Diplomas for the Class of 2021 will be mailed to the address that your graduate provided when completing the graduation application. Estimated delivery time is four to six weeks after Commencement. If your graduate has not received their diploma by July 12, please contact Registration & Academic Services at (610) 758-3200.

For each ceremony, an online program with the order of exercises, student speaker bios, and more will be available to view on the Commencement website. These programs will be provided online closer to the ceremony dates.

A printed commemorative Commencement program will be mailed this summer to graduates with degrees awarded. This program will be an official representation of the graduates from Lehigh University. The Class of 2020 program will include graduates’ names and honors & awards with degrees awarded in Summer 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2020. The Class of 2021 program will include graduates’ names and honors & awards with degrees awarded in Summer 2020, Winter 2021, and Spring 2021.

Graduates will receive the printed program based on when their degree was awarded. If a graduate plans to walk in the Class of 2021 ceremony and their degree will be awarded in Summer 2021, Winter 2022, or Spring 2022, they will be printed in next year’s Class of 2022 program.

Printed programs will be mailed to the mailing address graduates provided for their diploma. If they already received their diploma and their address has since changed, please complete this form. If they have not graduated yet and would like to change their mailing address for their diploma and program, please complete RAS's Diploma Address Update Form.

A digital version of the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 Commencement printed programs will also be available on the Commencement website to view and download this summer.
