The US Department of Veteran’s Affairs administers benefits which provide educational assistance to service members, veterans, and their dependents. Lehigh University accepts and certifies payments through the GI Bill®, however, we do not determine eligibility for these types of benefits. There are several chapters of GI Bill® benefits - it is the student and their family’s responsibility to confirm their eligibility through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Students who apply for admission to Lehigh are asked to indicate if they are eligible for Veteran’s Benefits on their admission application. Students who indicate that they are eligible for benefits are then sent a brief survey (sent to the email listed on their admission application) to identify the type of Veteran’s Education Benefits that they are eligible to receive.
Admitted undergraduate students will receive notification of this award at the time of admission.
Newly admitted graduate students should notify the Office of Financial Aid of their anticipated eligibility for Veteran’s Benefits.
If the student is admitted to Lehigh and has completed the survey, they will need to submit a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility form from the VA that confirms the benefit type. As long as this Certificate of Eligibility is received, the Office of Financial Aid will complete the certification of benefits through the VA ONCE website. Certifications are completed after the 10 th day classes for each semester.
Lehigh University is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides funding to cover tuition and fee charges that are not covered by the Post 911Bill/Chapter 33 Benefits.
The VA will match the institution’s yellow ribbon program funding.
Lehigh Yellow Ribbon is limited to 10 new undergraduates per year, with a cap of $10,000/academic year and 40 new graduate students, with a cap of $2000/academic year. The first ten new undergraduate students and the first 40 new graduate students to submit the university’s required VA benefit survey will be selected to receive the Yellow Ribbon Benefits.
The Office of Financial Aid will be sending an email communication at the end of each semester to all enrolled students who are utilizing VA benefits to confirm if they will be using their benefit the following semester. Students must respond to this email each semester so that our office can certify your enrollment for your VA Benefits.
You must notify the Office of Financial Aid if you withdraw from any courses or have any changes in enrollment during the semester in which you are receiving VA benefits.
