Author and activist Noam Chomsky presents Prospects for Peace in the Middle East
Noam Chomsky – the well-known linguist, political philosopher, historian, critic, author and activist – will discuss the prospects for peace in the Middle East at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5th, in Lehigh University’s Packard Auditorium.
Chomsky will also hold an informal question and answer session with interested members of the Lehigh community from 1:10 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in Neville Auditorium #1.
Long a sharp critic of both Israeli policy towards the Palestinian people and U. S. foreign policy in the Middle East and elsewhere, Professor Chomsky will draw on his extensive knowledge of the region to discuss the prospects for, and obstacles to, peace.
Born in 1928 in Philadelphia, Chomsky spent his undergraduate and graduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his PhD in linguistics in 1955. Besides his path-breaking work in linguistics, Chomsky is internationally recognized as one of the most critically engaged public intellectuals alive today. Chomsky continues to be an unapologetic critic of both American foreign policy and the neoliberal turn of global capitalism, which he identifies as a form of class warfare waged against the needs and interests of the great majority.

Over the past five decades, Chomsky has offered a searing critical indictment of U.S. foreign policy and its many military interventions across the globe, pointing out that the United States’ continued support for undemocratic regimes and its hostility to popular or democratic movements contradicts its professed claim to be spreading democracy and freedom in the world.
