Beat It for Charity—a week of philanthropy and fun

From April 12 to 16, three fraternities—Chi Psi, Phi Kappa Theta and Theta Chi—and two sororities—Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Gamma—will host a series of events to raise both awareness and money for charities.

The American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society and the Children’s Miracle Network will benefit from Lehigh’s “Beat It for Charity” Week.

The fraternities and sororities have chosen the Michael Jackson silhouette as their logo because he was a global pop icon and because each charity has a goal of helping to overcome an illness or struggle—or simply to “beat it,” says Pranish Kantak ‘12, philanthropy chair of Chi Psi fraternity.

The kickoff event, a luau on Monday, April 12, in Chi Psi’s parking lot, will feature a pig roast and a concert by Sandlot Heroes.

Tuesday, April 13: 12-hour dance-a-thon on the UC front lawn

Sponsored by Phi Kappa Theta, this event will begin at noon on a stage on the UC front lawn. Refreshments will be available for participants. The event will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Wednesday, April 14: Dunk for Diabetes

This six-hour fundraiser runs from noon to 6 p.m. on the UC front lawn and benefits the American Diabetes Association. Its sponsor, Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, has rented a dunk tank. Lehigh students will have the opportunity to hit a target and send a student, professor or staff member into a dunk tank. Thursday, April 15: “Fashion for the Cure”

A fashion show from 8 to 10:30 p.m. in Lamberton Hall—co-sponsored by Delta Gamma sorority and Theta Chi fraternity—will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Friday, April 16: Casino Night
