Ben T. Yen weighs in on bridge safety

Amtrak’s 302 bridges in the Philadelphia region receive low marks for their structural soundness, even by its own people. Ben T. Yen, professor emeritus of civil engineering at Lehigh University, comments on the issue in a Philadelphia Inquirer article, offering the perspective that there is much more to consider in qualifying bridge safety and cautioning not to overlook the minor things that can lead to serious issues.
Yen has consulted for several companies, government organization and states on structure and bridge evaluation and repair. Read Amtrak bridges troubled.
