Bill Maloney '80 to give talk on the Chilean mine rescue

Campus community invited to 10/28 lecture from ISE alumnus who helped develop the plan that unearthed Los 33

Bill Maloney, Lehigh Class of 1980 and owner of Drill Leader Consulting in Morgantown, WV, has built a successful 30-year career in mining and specialty drilling.
Dismayed by late-August news reports claiming that the 33 miners trapped in Chile would not be extracted until Christmas, he put his experience and knowledge to work. Along with like-minded colleagues from around our region and around the world, he helped hatch what came to be known as Plan B.
The idea, and its flawless execution, freed the miners as the world watched.
The Lehigh campus community is invited to attend this lecture to hear Mr. Maloney's story from inside the rescue effort, and how experience, technical expertise, and compassion came together from halfway around the world and reached a half mile down.
