The university celebrates the 83rd anniversary of the birth of the 20th-century civil rights leader with a week of events.

Tuesday, Jan. 17: “Life and Death of a Microbial Community”

The department of biological sciences presents an address by Richard M. Losick, the Maria Moors Cabot Professor in the department of molecular and cellular biology at Harvard University.

The event begins at 1:10 p.m. in the Governor’s Suite in Iacocca Hall.

Tuesday, Jan. 17: A Public Seminar on Diversifying Science

The event is sponsored by the department of biological sciences and the office of academic diversity and inclusion and will include Richard M. Losick, professor of molecular and cellular biology at Harvard University.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Packard Auditorium.

Wednesday, Jan. 18: “Designing Hybrid Materials for Chemical Transformations and Separations”

The department of chemical engineering presents an address by Daniel F. Shantz, professor of chemical engineering and director of the Materials Characterization Facility at Texas A&M University.

The event begins at 2:30 p.m. Room B-023 of Iacocca Hall.

Wednesday, Jan. 18: “Catalytic Properties of Sub-Nanometer Size-Selected Clusters and their Assemblies”

The department of chemistry presents an address by Stefan Vajda of the Argonne National Laboratory.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Neville Auditorium 3.

Friday, Jan. 20: “Towards the Smart Grid: Envisioning the Flow of Electricity, Information and Money in Advanced Power Networks”

The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science and the university cluster on Integrated Networks for Electricity present an all-day workshop exploring the flow of electricity, information and money in advanced power networks. Registration is required at www.lehigh.edu/grid.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wood Dining Room of Iacocca Hall.
