Friday, Sept. 2: Memorial Service for Professor Geraldo Vasconcellos

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in Packer Memorial Church for Geraldo Vasconcellos, professor of finance and also of economics in the College of Business and Economics, who died Monday, Aug. 29.

Friday, Sept. 2: “Environmental Consulting in the Marcellus Shale Region: An Overview of the Permitting Process”

The department of earth and environmental sciences presents a lecture by Joseph Corona ’03 M.S., a soil scientist with Hanover Engineering Assoc. Inc.

The event begins at noon in STEPS 101. It will be followed by a discussion with students from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 7: “A Micromoldable Metal for Soft, Stretchable and Biomimetic Electronics”

The department of chemical engineering presents an address by Michael Dickey, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at North Carolina State University.

The event begins at 2:30 p.m. in Room B023 of Iacocca Hall.

Wednesday, Sept. 7: “Privacy and Stylometry: Exploring the Limitations and Potential of Automated Authorship Recognition”

The department of computer science and engineering presents an address by Rachel Greenstadt, assistant professor of computer science and director of the Privacy, Security and Automation Laboratory at Drexel University.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Room 466 of Packard Lab.

Thursday, Sept. 8: “Luminescence from Rare Earth Doped III-V Nitride Semiconductors”

The department of physics presents an address by John Zavada, program director for photonics in the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems at the National Science Foundation.

The event begins at 4:10 p.m. in Room 316 of Lewis Lab.

Friday, Sept. 9: “New ways of studying old dinosaurs: What geochemistry can tell us about their biology and behavior”

The department of earth and environmental sciences presents a lecture by Henry Fricke, chair of the department of geology at Colorado College.

The event begins at noon in STEPS 101.

Friday, Sept. 9: “Engineering Success: The Importance of Mentoring”

The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science and the student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers present a panel discussion moderated by Mary Fernandez, chair of MentorNet and executive director of distributed computing research at AT&T Labs.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in STEPS 101. It is part of the campus-wide celebration of the 40th anniversary of the admission of women undergraduate students to Lehigh.
