Emergency preparedness test to take place Friday

As part of Lehigh’s ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, University Communications will conduct a test of the emergency communications on Lehigh’s website beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. The test should last approximately 30 to 90 minutes. The test should not have an adverse effect on normal site operations, though the visual appearance of the site will change during testing.

 

There will also be a test of the text messaging system, LU-Alert, as well as our mass e-mail and voice mail communications. If you have not already done so, you can register for LU-Alerts at www.lehigh.edu/lu-alert by logging in and then following the instructions listed on the site for registration.

 

Given the important role Lehigh’s Web site will play during a crisis, it is essential to conduct periodic testing of this functionality. Friday’s test will simulate the Web- and Internet-related communication process Lehigh would follow during an actual crisis situation. This will include adding emergency-related graphics and text to the site and ultimately switching over to a low-bandwidth or “lite” version of some of the university’s Web pages. All affected graphics and text on the site will be clearly labeled with the word “test” to prevent any confusion.
