Engineering majors dominate the list of top-paid graduates for 2010

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), engineering majors dominate the list of top-paid bachelor’s degrees. NACE’s Winter 2010 Salary Survey shows that engineering disciplines account for eight of the 10 most highly paid degrees, with computer science and information systems -- fields inextricably linked to engineering -– rounding out the list.

Engineers are trained to solve big, complex challenges, says David Wu, Dean and Iacocca Professor of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. It comes as no surprise that such skills command a higher earning potential.

The NACE report follows on the heels of the late-2009 Payscale College Salary Report, which found that Lehigh Engineers are tied for seventh in the nation in mid-career median salary. Engineers across the board dominate the salary charts right out of school, says Dean Wu, and Lehigh Engineers specifically tend toward the upper portion of this bracket throughout their careers.

Lehigh offers its undergraduates an opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research in a small, highly collaborative community of learning. Dean Wu believes that this plays a significant role in launching students into careers of significant achievement.

Lehigh is a great match for students looking to make a contribution to society and to find creative solutions to some of our most pressing issues, he says. Young, talented minds who are up to those challenges will find a home here. Overall, our interdisciplinary approach and diverse learning environment creates a vibrant, intellectually stimulating campus that helps to positively shape the lives of our students.
