Greek accreditation reports available online

Results of the annual accreditation process for Greek chapters on Lehigh’s campus, initially developed as a result of the university’s Strengthening Greek Life initiative, are now available online.

This year, houses were subject to a new process that integrated core skills and values around which Lehigh designs its student activities. These areas include intellectual development, leadership development, community involvement, organizational development, and facilities management. The students presented their reports in front of a panel composed of staff, faculty and alumni. They then engaged in a question and answer period with the committee.

The results of the new process are encouraging to Tim Wilkinson, Lehigh’s assistant director of student life for fraternity and sorority affairs.

“The chapters that did really well, that really get it, are tying their actions to the mission of their organization,” he says. “The progress they make is more meaningful.”

Of the 29 fraternities and sororities that went through the accreditation process last year, eight earned gold distinction, 12 earned silver, six earned bronze and three were rated under the “poor” category.

Wilkinson says that while not every chapter received a glowing report, even the three labeled as “poor” were positive about the process.

“They know they’re being held accountable, but for the right reasons,” he says.
