Lehigh ranks among nation’s best research universities

Lehigh University has again been recognized by US News and World Report as one of the nation’s outstanding research universities. In the just released 2011 “Guide to America’s Best Colleges,” Lehigh University was ranked 37th.  In addition, Lehigh was ranked 29th in the nation for “great schools, great prices.”

Among the best undergraduate engineering programs whose highest degree is a Ph.D., Lehigh’s P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science ranked 36th in the country.

“It’s gratifying that Lehigh consistently ranks among the top research universities in the country, and that our success in fulfilling our mission of teaching, research and service is recognized,” said Lehigh President Alice P. Gast. “This is a tribute to our students, faculty and staff.”

Gast noted that it was significant that, even in this difficult economy, 95 percent of Lehigh’s Class of 2009 was employed, enrolled in graduate school, pursuing military careers, traveling or pursuing other career-related opportunities within six months of graduating. The undergraduate placement summary for the Class of 2009 is online.

Gast cautioned that rankings are only one indicator of the caliber of a university education, and said that she encourages prospective students and their families to learn more about Lehigh through campus visits and by reviewing the university Web site.

To aid prospective students and their families in their decision-making, Lehigh also provides a wealth of information on academics, resources, campus life, and scholarship and financial aid offerings. Please see the university’s institutional profile.
