Power continues to be restored to locations on and off-campus. Residential Services will be contacting students by email to let them know when it is safe for them to return to their residence hall or chapter houses. Questions can be directed to the Residential Services office at 610-758-3500 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 30s again tonight, and we are offering students the option of spending the night in the University Center emergency shelter. Students can register at the Information Desk before 8 p.m. this evening with a Lehigh student ID. Questions can be directed to the UC main desk at 610-758-4160.

The Lehigh University Police Department will continue additional patrols on and off-campus throughout the weekend.

Please note that classes will resume on Monday, as will all normal university operations. Libraries will be open this weekend.

Students who may have difficulty returning to campus as a result of ongoing power outages throughout the Northeast are asked to contact their professors directly.

Power continues to be restored to locations on and off-campus, and the university is continuing to make progress toward normal operations.

The Residential Services office will be contacting students in halls or chapter houses by email to let them know when it is safe for them to return. Questions may also be directed to that office at 610-758-3500.

Students in off-campus neighborhoods can check to see if power has been restored to their residences by either contacting their landlord about their specific address, or checking the Outage Center on the PPL website. Please note that the account number or the phone number of the primary account holder is needed to obtain this information.

Classes will resume on Monday, and all academic deadlines (tests, projects, etc.) that were previously scheduled for next week will continue as scheduled. Four o’clocks scheduled for the week beginning November 5th will take place as previously scheduled. An email from the Provost’s office on academic deadlines was sent directly to students last night.

We recognize that many homes in the Northeast remain without power and we hope those students and their families are remaining safe. Students who continue to have difficulty coming back to Lehigh are asked to contact their instructors to discuss their particular situation.

Transportation is running on a normal schedule and libraries are open. Dining services are available at several locations throughout campus, including the Fud Truk, which will be on campus beginning 11 a.m. Saturday. Power has been fully restored to Rathbone Hall and to more on-campus residences. The Residential Services office will be contacting students in these halls or chapter houses by email to let them know when it is safe for them to return.

Power continues to be restored sporadically in the off-campus areas surrounding Lehigh and to areas of campus that have been without service for several days. We realize that many of our off-campus students are still without power and heat at this time. The weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 30s this evening, and the university is offering these students the option of spending the night in the University Center emergency shelter.

We will accept Lehigh students at the shelter until it reaches capacity. Students can register at the Information Desk before 8:30 this evening with a Lehigh student ID. Questions can be directed to the UC main desk at 610-758-4160.

To check if power has been restored to their off-campus residences, students should contact their landlord about their specific address, or check the Outage Center on the PPL website.

Off campus neighborhoods will be patrolled by our Lehigh University Police Department Community Police officers, who will go door to door to verify the security of homes that are still without power. We have added additional officers and security personnel to heighten patrol and response capabilities on campus as well.

The university is continuing to make progress toward normal operations.  Rathbone Dining Hall will begin serving on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on a regular schedule after that. A significant amount of power has been restored to the Lehigh campus and we are making progress towards normal operations.  All roads have been cleared of fallen debris from Monday night’s storm, and safety concerns have been addressed.

Classes will resume on Monday, and all academic deadlines (tests, projects, etc.) that were previously scheduled for next week will continue as scheduled. Four o’clocks scheduled for the week beginning November 5th will take place as previously scheduled.  Students will be notified of the dates for the four o’clocks that were scheduled for the week of October 29th through November 2nd.

We are working with faculty to resolve scheduling issues, and more detail on academic decisions will be conveyed to the campus community in an email from the Provost’s office later today.

Many residence halls and chapter houses will be opening, although there are still some affected by the power outage.  Students should not assume that they can access their buildings until each building has stable power and is fully assessed for safety.  An email will be sent directly to on-campus students regarding the status of their specific residence hall or sorority or fraternity later this morning. Questions and concerns can be directed to Residential Services at 610-758-3500.

Wherever possible, we are returning to limited student services. Food service is operational, though there are limitations as a result of the storm (see details below). Libraries are open, classrooms are open, and administrative staff returned to work. 

We appreciate the ongoing patience and cooperation of members of the Lehigh community as we respond to this extraordinary situation.

Below are updates on specific services:

HEALTH CENTER: The center will be open 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. There will be no clinic hours this Saturday, November 3.

As always, when the office is closed, a member of the clinical staff can be reached by calling Campus Police at 610-758-4200.

Normal hours will resume on Monday, November 5th.  Please call 610-758-3870 for updated information or to schedule an appointment.

DINING:  Cort Dining Room will be open to students on a meal plan. Hours of service are 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for brunch and 4:30 to 6 p.m. for dinner. These hours will remain in place until further notice.  In addition, the food court in the University Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Pandini’s will be open on Saturday and Sunday (12 noon until closing both days).  The Hawk’s Nest will be open from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday, 4 p.m. to 4 am. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.  Sunday.

Lucy’s Café in Linderman wil be open from 12 noon until 11 p.m. Sunday.

Rathbone will not re-open until Monday, and the Asa Packer Dining Room will remain closed until further notice as it may be used as emergency shelter.

TRANSPORTATION: Buses will be running on a regular schedule as of Thursday, including stops at Mountaintop Campus and Saucon Village. The TRACS service will run on the normal schedule by this evening.

PARKING: Parking operations are returning to the normal schedule. Students who parked their cars in the parking garages do NOT have to remove them until 5 p.m. Sunday.

LIBRARIES: Both Linderman and Fairchild-Martindale will be open Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.  Saturday hours for both locations will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BOOKSTORE: Open regular hours on Thursday and remainder of the week.

EVENTS: There are a number of activities, events and varsity athletic competitions taking place this weekend. Students can go to the university calendar for details. 

BUILDING ACCESS: All academic buildings will be open, however, students will not be allowed to stay overnight in academic buildings. Students who are without power in their residences should go to the University Center shelter and register at the Information Desk between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Wednesday, October 31, 2012   6 p.m.

All staff should report to Lehigh for their regular work schedule on Thursday morning, with the exception of those who work in buildings on the west side of Brodhead Avenue, who should report at noon Thursday.

Please note that the Lehigh Child Care Center remains closed as Saucon Village is still without power. Employees who are dependent upon the center and have difficulty reporting to work should contact their supervisor directly.

Other employees who might have issues that impact their ability to report to work should also contact their supervisor.

We recognize that the storm has had a tremendous impact on the area and that some employees are still without power. We hope you and your families remained safe during this historic storm.
