Due to inclement winter weather, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the university will operate on a remote teaching/learning/working schedule until noon, as described in option #3 in our Adverse Weather Procedure. We will reassess conditions in the morning. Only Essential Services Staff members should report to work on campus as normal.
Snow and ice removal crews will be out on campus but some pathways and areas may have snow or be icy. Exercise caution if you must move across campus.
Tuesday morning's COVID-19 surveillance testing is canceled between 9 a.m. and noon. Students should reschedule their appointments to Wednesday if possible. The university is closely monitoring another storm for Thursday and we encourage students scheduled for an appointment then to reschedule to Wednesday as well (ensuring it is at least 5-7 days after your last test).
The Health & Wellness Center at Johnson Hall will be open with limited access and services beginning at noon. In the event of a true medical emergency, call LUPD at 610-758-4200 if on campus or 911 if off campus.
Safety reminders for students on and off campus in the event of a power outage:
- Be sure to use caution and good judgment if you need to be outside during periods of inclement weather and high winds.
- Ensure your cell phones are fully charged.
- Prepare for a possible power outage by having flashlights and extra batteries. Keep in mind that you cannot use candles or open flames in campus buildings. For fire safety reasons, off-campus students should not use candles or open flames.
- Ensure windows and doors remain closed during the storm. Students in residence halls should seek necessary assistance from Gryphons on your floor.
For faculty and research personnel:
In light of the predicted ice storm, we want to raise your awareness that despite recent improvements to the campus power grid that reduce susceptibility, storms of this kind bring an increased risk of power failures. Accordingly, in advance of the storm, please think carefully about important materials or equipment that could be damaged or lost in a power failure. For guidance or advice on preparing your lab, please refer to the laboratory shutdown and emergency planning guide at https://research.cc.lehigh.edu/lab-shutdown.
Please ensure as well that critical data and documents are not at risk if power to non-LTS-managed computers or servers is lost. If you do determine that it's important to come to campus, please be careful, please avoid asking anyone else to travel when it's not safe, and keep in mind that following COVID protocols remains necessary. If an emergency develops in your lab, contact University Police at x84200 or 610-758-4200 from your cell phone.
