Vice president for advancement resigns; interim VP named
Bonnie Devlin, vice president for advancement, will leave Lehigh to pursue new professional opportunities elsewhere. Her resignation is effective Sept. 30. John Norton, assistant vice president of advancement, will assume her responsibilities until a search for a new vice president is completed.
In announcing her resignation, Devlin expressed her appreciation to the university community and President Alice P. Gast and reflected upon her decision. “After eight rewarding years of expanding Lehigh’s fundraising efforts, this is an appropriate time in my career to pursue new professional opportunities. Professional change is a tonic.
“It has been a privilege to serve Lehigh and to work closely with Lehigh alumni and donors to encourage their philanthropic support. I am particularly proud of the dedicated and accomplished advancement staff, and I know they will continue to serve Lehigh well. I thank President Gast and the Lehigh community for their understanding and support during my leave. The university has asked that I be available to assist Lehigh during the transition to new leadership in advancement and I am happy to do so.”
Respected in her field, Devlin has earned numerous professional awards including 2007 Professional of the Year from the Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE) District II and 2005 Fundraising Executive of the Year from the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
On behalf of the Lehigh administration, Gast expressed thanks to Devlin for her eight years of service and her commitment to the university’s mission and goals. Under Devlin’s leadership, Lehigh’s advancement organization has expanded its giving base, launched an ambitious campaign and achieved 67 percent of its campaign goal.
